Explore Rhino 3D with a 90-day trial. Develop your own design ideas, work with familiar project files and discover how precise modelling, parametric design and rendering can support your work. Whether you are studying, teaching, designing independently or working in a team, the trial gives you first-hand experience before you choose a perpetual licence. Contact CADWAX to arrange your trial.

Discover What You Can Create

Trying Rhino with your own ideas reveals more than viewing finished models. You can explore the shapes you want to create, assess the precision your designs require and see how comfortably the tools fit the way you think. The 90-day evaluation gives you time to develop that understanding across modelling, revisions and presentation, with saving and plugin use available throughout the trial period.

For students and educators, it is an opportunity to explore design concepts and assess Rhino for coursework or teaching. For independent designers and professional teams, it offers a practical basis for deciding how Rhino fits existing projects, file exchanges and presentation requirements. You can choose a licence with a clearer understanding of the capabilities you will use.

Explore Rhino’s Modelling Capabilities

The trial gives you access to Rhino’s precise curve and surface modelling, SubD tools, Grasshopper and native rendering. Explore how modelling, design changes, file exchange and presentation work together.

Rhino’s NURBS curves and surfaces describe both accurately controlled shapes and complex freeform geometry. For architectural work, that can mean curved roofs, façade surfaces and bespoke components. In marine design, it can mean hull forms, deck surfaces and the geometry of individual fittings.

SubD offers a different approach to shaping smooth forms, with an editable control structure suited to developing and refining a design’s overall shape. SubD objects can also be converted to NURBS, combining freeform design with precise surface construction.

Discover Parametric Design with Grasshopper

Grasshopper is included with Rhino. Its visual programming environment connects geometric operations and data, allowing a design to respond to changes in dimensions, spacing and other inputs. Relationships remain editable, so a change to an input can update the connected geometry. Exploring these relationships during the trial helps you assess the potential for comparing design variations and developing adaptable models.

Our Grasshopper features overview explores these capabilities in more detail.

Work with Your Own Project Files

Rhino’s import and export tools support formats including STEP and IGES for surface and solid geometry, DWG and DXF for drawing exchange, and STL and OBJ for mesh geometry. Use files relevant to your own projects to assess how Rhino fits your design work and the deliverables your collaborators require. This gives you a more useful basis for a purchasing decision than a feature list alone.

Explore Materials, Lighting and Presentation

Rhino’s native rendering tools let you assess materials, textures and lighting directly alongside the model. The Raytraced display provides visual feedback as you develop the presentation, while Rhino Render produces images in a dedicated rendering window. Explore how clearly your model can communicate a design as well as how effectively its geometry can be developed.

Our display and rendering article explains the available presentation approaches.

Discover Specialist Plugins

Specialist plugins extend Rhino’s capabilities for particular disciplines. Their platform compatibility, licence requirements and trial availability are separate from the Rhino evaluation. Our plugins guide by discipline introduces the specialist tools available through CADWAX. Contact us about trial options for the software you are considering.

Keep Using Rhino as a File Viewer

After the 90-day evaluation ends, Rhino can still be used to open and view Rhino models and many other supported file formats. This gives you an ongoing way to inspect designs and view shared project files, even if you are not ready to purchase a licence. Continued saving and plugin use require a purchased licence.

Your Evaluation and Licence Options

One evaluation is available per customer, per major version, and each person needs their own evaluation licence. Saving and plugin use stop when the 90-day evaluation ends unless you purchase a licence. The evaluation period cannot be extended, so choose a start date that gives you time to explore the software.

A perpetual Rhino licence provides ongoing use of the licensed release. First-time buyers can choose a full commercial licence, or a full educational licence if eligible. The trial itself does not qualify for upgrade pricing. Our Rhino licence guide explains the purchasing options, while the licensing and accounts hub covers licence access and administration.

Bring Your Ideas into Rhino 3D

Explore the forms you want to create, test the files you work with and discover the tools that suit your ambitions. Your 90-day trial gives you time to make an informed choice for your studies, teaching, personal projects or professional work. After the evaluation, you can continue using Rhino as a file viewer.
